#22: Where did this line come from?

"Whatever you're going to do - do it fast!"

This line is present in numerous films, shows, and (probably) comics.  Examples include, Aliens, Star Wars, and Cowboy Bebop:  Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shui (where I just spotted it).  Over used cliche for action movies, or an allusion to old-school goodies?

What does the interwebz think?

  1. I like the phrase, it tells you that you are watching an action movie, in case you forgot. =P OR it could represent lovers who are going to get caught. Possibly in a supply closet at a Dr.'s office?

  2. I believe it's a relatable phrase said in movies where the situation isn't like anything any of us have ever been in before. We've all been in situations where we've needed to think fast whether or not it means life and death.

I like it. It adds a little realism. :)

  3. I like it. Personally, it makes me think of Star Wars. Do you know which came first? Maybe it is meant as an homage to the original line. PS, I love reading your blog, Casey, but I only remember when you post stuff about it on Facebook, lol.

  4. Seems like I do remember it from Star Wars now...Leia in the trash compactor scene maybe? But Vasquez said it best it Aliens. Be fun to research it. Certainly could have been said since the dawn of time by many real people...Jesus, Harry Truman, Gus Grissom, etc., etc. Wonder if it is in an Indiana Jones movie?

  5. I Google'd it but can seem to find a source telling me where it comes from. Writers all over the interwebz have borrowed it for home-grown films, fan fic, etc. I'm going to keep looking...
