#28: 12 Steps Away at "College Players Showcase"

The Florida Tech College Players are putting together a Showcase where they allow their performers to put together a 10-minute act to present to campus and public.

Here is the information that the President of CP, Siobhan Ireland, posted on the Facebook Event page:

The event will be free to all!!

#27: Advertising Galore - Chronicles of the Worst Week #1

With the onset of Art and Music Day (http://cp.fit.edu/?q=node/177) in a few days, I am also in full advertising swing for the upcoming play "Much Ado About Nothing" (http://cp.fit.edu/?q=node/178).  Below is the logo that I created (with direction from director, Miles), along with the poster that it is being applied to.

#20: J. Prufrock "Love Song" [musings]

This is my last semester as an undergraduate (I hope) and I'm being overly ambitious and trying to change my life.

How?

I've joined a metal band (12 Steps Away), am cohosting another Art and Music Day, doing the advertisements for the theatre organization on campus (College Players), am in three jazz bands (one with an astronaut; Jazz Syndicate), and trying to get some art finished and put up.

In relation to the last addendum to my life, I recently worked on a drawing for my British and American Literature class. The assignment was to compare a piece of Modernist writing to a piece of artwork. I decided to do my own artwork. It is almost finished and I hope to have it up soon. It is called 'J. Prufrock "Love Story",' which you may know is a twist on T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J.F. Prufrock". (You can read it here --> The Love Story of J.F. Prufrock)

Eliot's poem is one of my favorite of all time. My mother showed it to me when I was in early high school and I never forgot my favorite lines, "In the room the women come and go/Talking of Michelangelo." Michelangelo was a great artist, and so was T.S. Eliot; however, Eliot was no Michelangelo. The protagonist, Prufrock, is dealing with frustrations regarding women (the attainment of), aging, and of the decadence of living in the city.

In my piece, I imagined Prufrock in a nightclub. Nightclubs are dingy, dirty, decadent, and superficial (you thought all of those words were going to start in 'd's,' didn't you?). The women are dancing to the beats of MC Michelangelo as poor Prufrock stands in the corner. I hope to have this up this week (it is pen, pencil, and colored pencil).

In other news, I have FINALLY joined some deviantArt groups, #All Art Support and #Unknown-Artists-Club . I hope to be a more actice community member of deviantArt. Anyway, stay tuned as I become "more active." ..as if that is even possible.

..oh, hey.. and maybe I'll start exercising.  I say that now..

#18: "Metal Shakespeare"

So.  Here is what has been happening in the lala-land of right brained artistic and musical egocentrism.

A)  I need to post more on here (I took a hiatus over Christmas and during all the performances in the Fall.)

As far as reviews go, I've been listening to this band from Pittsburgh called "Beware Fashionable Women."  They are totally awesome.  They sound like a modern avant-garde mixture of the The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Shins, and The Pixies (oddly enough, all of those bands had "The" in their titles.)  I am planning on writing a review on them in the future for this blog and for The Crimson (http://crimson.fit.edu/).  You can check them out on YouTube; here is one of my fav's:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-vbTEk_o98&playnext=1&list=PL27772CBAF9188987&index=7

As far as art goes, I have couple drawings that I've been working on.  I hope to post my "Dragon Ballerina" soon, but for now I will leave you with "Punk/Metal Shakespeare."  This version is watermarked, so if you want an original, lemme know (it's hard to see, but it's there).  I created him for a poster for the College Players (cp.fit.edu) auditions for "Much Ado About Nothing".

#16: The Florida Tech College Players present...

..."The Drowsy Chaperone" by Bob Martin and Don McKellar!  This is our upcoming musical.  College Players is a student-run organization at Florida Tech that puts on a main production every semester (Fall, musicals; Spring, plays).

I have been making artsy stuff for my PR position with College Players.  Below is some of the stuff I have made for the show (most of it is just alterations of the same logo with I drew with art markers.)

This is the original scan of the logo.  Done with art markers.  I drew it like 20 times because I couldn't seem to get the record player right.

This is the finished show logo.  I drew this with art markers and made the blue bordering with Gimp 2.6  There are some addition edits I did with Gimp to make it larger.
